The Savannah Airport Commission invites applications for the position of Assistant Police Chief of the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) in Savannah, Georgia. (NOTE: This position will transition into Chief of Police within six to eight months following the successful completion of required trainings and certifications.)
The Airport has selected Steven Baldwin Associates to conduct a confidential, national search for this position.
This is an exciting time to be at SAV which has seen record-setting growth over the past five years, and has been named to several recent “best of” lists for U.S. airports (including “happiest” airports). This includes being named one of the 15 Best Airports in the U.S. in a “Best in Travel 2018” feature from Money magazine; being named one of the Top 10 Best Airports by Condé Nast’s Reader’s Choice Awards for 2017 and 2016; and being named one of 2017’s 10 Best Domestic Airports in Travel + Leisure’s coveted World’s Best Awards.
The Airport’s passenger growth has increased more than 45% since 2012 as a result of increased air service, new seasonal offerings, and award-winning facilities and customer service. New flight destinations take advantage of Savannah’s and Hilton Head’s ever-increasing draw as major tourist destinations. Total enplanements grew 12% from 2016 to 2017, with a total of 2.5 million passengers served in 2017, an all-time record. 2018 is already on track to beat those figures with record-setting numbers for March, which were up 6% from the same period a year ago.
The Airport has an operating budget of $25 million for 2018, and employs approximately 210 people. With a slate of ambitious capital projects of renovation and expansion—such as the recently completed $8 million new baggage handling system—the Airport is well-positioned for continued growth and development.
Into this dynamic, exciting environment, we are searching for an Assistant Chief of Police—a position that is set to fast-track to becoming Chief of Police within 6-8 months—to join our team.
- Offering an exciting and collegial working environment, the Airport is seeking an experienced Assistant Chief of Police who can provide leadership and administration of the Airport’s Public Safety Plan, the Airport Emergency Plan, as well as interpretation and enforcement of laws and regulations to comply with Federal, state, and local ordinances. SAV is seeking a candidate who will thrive in policy development and who has extensive administrative duties, budget oversight, as well as can provide leadership in personnel management and development, while working collaboratively with the Executive Director and other senior members of the executive team. The successful candidate should be prepared to transition into the position of Chief of Police upon successful completion of required trainings and certifications within six to eight months of employment.
